Takehome is an estimate tool, not an advice service. Nothing on this site is financial, tax, investment, accounting, or legal advice. It is general information published for educational purposes. Do not rely on it as the sole basis for any financial decision.
1. Estimates only
Every figure this site produces is an estimate. It is generated by applying published tax rates to a salary you enter. It is not a payslip, not a tax return, and not a statement of what your employer will actually withhold.
2. What the calculation includes
The estimate applies, for the 2026 tax year:
- Federal income tax brackets, with the standard deduction
- State income tax, where the state levies one
- Social Security (up to the annual wage base)
- Medicare, including the additional Medicare surtax above the threshold
3. What the calculation excludes
These exclusions are significant and will move your real number. The estimate does not account for:
- Tax credits of any kind (Earned Income, Child Tax Credit, and others)
- Local, city, county, or school district income taxes
- Pre-tax deductions such as 401(k), 403(b), HSA, FSA, or health, dental and vision premiums
- Post-tax deductions such as garnishments, union dues, or Roth contributions
- Itemized deductions, or any deduction other than the standard deduction
- State disability insurance, paid family leave levies, or similar state programs
- Other household income, self-employment income, investment income, bonuses, equity compensation, or multiple jobs
- Your specific Form W-4 elections, which determine actual withholding
"Married filing jointly" applies the joint brackets and deduction to a single earner's salary. It does not model a two-income household.
4. Accuracy and tax law changes
Tax rates, brackets, wage bases, and deductions change, sometimes mid-year, and sometimes retroactively. While this site aims to reflect official published figures, no warranty is given that any figure is current, complete, or accurate. Always confirm against the IRS and your state's department of revenue. If you spot an error, please report it.
5. No professional relationship
Using this site does not create an accountant–client, adviser–client, or any other professional relationship. Takehome is built by Jose Manuel Gómez, an independent developer who is not a licensed tax adviser, CPA, attorney, or financial adviser. See the about page. For advice on your own situation, consult a qualified professional who can review your full circumstances.
6. Limitation of liability
This site is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator accepts no liability for any loss or damage, including financial loss, arising from use of, or reliance on, this site or its figures.
